FARMINGTON — A new Western Maine Outdoor Club is taking shape in Franklin County and is looking for members. Activities could span four seasons and include hiking, mountain biking, cycling, camping, snowshoeing, back-country skiing,
The first meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the University of Maine at Farmington’s Olsen Student Center, North Dining Room A.
The purpose is to see if there is sufficient interest in the area to form an outdoor club. In addition to outdoor activities, the club may seek to provide a structure for public awareness (i.e. safety, conservation and environmental awareness) and/or provide an outlet for public service activities.
A snowshoe hike will take place on the new Fly Rod Crosby Trail on Saturday, Feb. 4. The group will leave from the trail head at Star Barn Bed and Breakfast at 9:30 a.m.
