William D. Andrews of Newry, president of the Bethel Historical Society, has written a mystery novel set in a fictional western Maine town called Ryland.
“Breaking Ground, an Islandport Press publication, revolves around Julie Williamson, a puzzle-loving director of a small-town historical society, who sets out to solve the murder of a well-known benefactor.
The benefactor is murdered on the morning of a ceremony celebrating the construction of an important new building. The suspenseful novel is filled with Maine characters and history, from the board of trustees to the tireless town police chief to Williamson’s professor boyfriend.
“Breaking Ground” is the second Julie Williamson novel. The first, “Stealing History,” was published in 2006.
Andrews, former president of Westbrook College in Portland, is a consultant, freelance editor and writer. He has published three textbooks on management communication. He remains active in the Bethel Historical Society and the Mahoosuc Land Trust.
