LIVERMORE FALLS — Police responded to an accident Monday night where a tractor-trailer truck drove into the park on Union Street and hit a tree.
The driver, Peter Theriault, 44, of Livermore had lost control of the truck on slippery Church Street and ended up in the park across the road, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Tuesday.
The truck, owned by R.S. Pidacks Inc. of Livermore, had to be towed from the site, he said.
Sgt. Steven Allen attributed the crash to icy road conditions and going too fast for road conditions, Steward said.
Sleet, hail and freezing rain were falling.
Allen responded to another accident at 6:40 p.m. where multiple cars were off the road near the intersection of Haines Corner Road on Route 133, Steward said. Six vehicles had gone off the road on a short stretch of road, he said.
Three of the vehicles only needed help to get back on the road, Steward said.
Three others collided with each other after one went off the road, and another tried to assist the driver of that vehicle.
A 2011 Dodge pickup driven by Randall Bibeau, 45, of Livermore Falls started down a hill at the intersection to help a vehicle off the road.
Bibeau’s truck ended up going sideways and he was trying to back up when a 1993 Subaru driven by Kenneth Ranger, 37, of Jay, came over the hill, Steward said. Ranger tried to avoid hitting Bibeau’s truck and hit the bumper of it and went out of control in the northbound lane, hitting a third vehicle on the front driver’s side.
The third vehicle was a 2004 Mitsubishi and was driven by Adam Coulon, 23, of Farmington, Steward said.
All three vehicles were damaged, he said.
