WILTON — Meta Lydia Sevigny, 80, of Wilton was killed in a tragic car accident on Monday, Jan. 23.

Meta was born in Singen-Hohentwiel, Germany, March 17, 1931, to Rudolph and Lydia Bollmer Winkler.

Meta spent her early life in Germany during and immediately following World War II and had many stories of her experiences during that difficult time. She immigrated to the United States in the 1950s and taught herself to speak English while living here.

As an Army wife, she moved many times during her early married life, finally settling in Farmington, where she spent the rest of her life. She would often share her experiences of living in war-torn Germany with others in the community.

Meta was a hard-working, industrious person who was dedicated to helping others. She was very generous with her time and resources, always willing to give of herself to someone in need. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was centered on her family.

She loved gardening and sewing and was a very talented artist. Everyone who knew Meta knew her as a kind, gentle, but sometimes feisty lady with a heart of gold.
