100 years ago, 1912
The minimum temperature for the year, and one which has been equalled but few times since records have been kept in this city, was reached at seven o’clock Friday morning. At that time and at eight o’clock, the mercury stood at 22 degrees below zero. There were but seven hours out of the 24 when it was not below zero. Indications are for warmer weather and snow.
50 years ago, 1962
A twist contest will be a feature of the annual party to be given Jan. 31, for the Lewiston High School Band by the LHS Band Booster Club. Band and Booster Club members will compete in the contest.
The party will be held in the school gymnasium with a smorgasbord supper and continuing with a basketball game between a team of Booster Club members and another composed of faculty members. Women members of the Booster Club will serve as cheerleaders.
25 years ago, 1987
Auburn Mall will be hosting a 1987 New Model Auto Show this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The show will be open mall hours and features 28 of this year’s most popular new cars from area dealerships.
The Maine State Police Alcohol Testing Van will be joining the show to distribute information on the dangers of drinking and driving.
