Dinner, dance
JAY — The VFW will host a Valentine’s Day dinner and dance Saturday, Feb. 11, at the VFW on Jewel Street.
Prime rib will be served. Baked chicken is available at prior request. Cost is $20 per person. Dinner served at 6:30 p.m. followed by “DJ Mikie T” from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Valentine dinner
RANGELEY — A Valentine Dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main St.
Adults, $8; children under 13, $4.
Menu includes baked beans, baked ham, cole slaw, yeast rolls, maraschino cake and coffee, tea, milk or fruit punch.
Woodlot thinning
PHILLIPS — The local chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Maine Forest Service will meet at 62 Pinkham Hill Road with the father/son business “Forest Improvement Services,” owned by Scott and Ryan Bubier, to see pre-commercial thinning jobs they have done. This will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Discussion will cover the different terms used and confused in thinning various stages of a woodlot, preferred equipment, the silviculture of thinning, the costs and what cost share funds are out there to get that work done. Be prepared for the weather; snowshoes will likely be needed.
