CARTHAGE — Canadian Celtic group The Cottars will perform Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 22-23, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center and Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity, respectively.
The Cottars have come a long way, starting as children performing to a hometown audience, through their teen years when they toured the world and shared stages with the biggest names in the business. Today, they have evolved again, into young adults, mature in their skills with new faces and outlooks.
Even though still relatively young, The Cottars have earned nominations and hardware, including East Coast Music Awards and Nova Scotia Music Industry Awards. They have toured throughout Canada, performed shows in Europe and in 38 U.S.states, done two tours of Japan and appeared at major festivals worldwide.
The quartet released its fourth CD, “Feast,” in 2010.
Joining original Cottars members Ciaran and Fiona MacGillivray are two new band members, fiddler/singer Rachel Davis and veteran guitarist Bruce Timmons. With her roots firmly in Cape Breton, Davis has a deep background in Gaelic culture which is evident in her music. Respected among his peers, Timmons can easily fall into any musical style, from straight Celtic to something far heavier.
