MEXICO — Police continued to search Friday evening for a man they say grabbed a laptop computer inside Dyer’s Electronics earlier in the day.

The $400 laptop was recovered outside the Main Street store, Mexico police Lt. Roy Hodsdon said.

“Dyer’s had an unknown male come in and walk out the door with the laptop, but we were able to recover it, and we’re looking for the suspect right now,” he said. The incident occurred at 11:08 a.m.

“One of the employees followed him out the store and was able to retrieve it from him, so we do have some (surveillance) footage of him,” Hodsdon said.

Police searched unsuccessfully for the suspect throughout the day.

Mexico police are also investigating two other thefts.

At 11:11 p.m. Thursday, two snowmobile riders drove off without paying for $70 worth of gas at the Big Apple on Route 2, Hodsdon said.

“We have two suspects and we’re just trying to track them down to arrest them,” he said.

He said one rider fueled up with super unleaded; the other, regular unleaded.

The other theft happened on Wednesday at Walmart where Hodsdon said $2,000 worth of “electronics” was taken in what’s called a “push-out.”

“They walked out the front door,” he said. “We have three male suspects but I don’t think they’re from the area. I think they’re just hitting Walmarts.”
