LIVERMORE FALLS — Local Democrat Maurice Castonguay has announced his candidacy for House District 81, which includes Livermore Falls, Livermore, Leeds and Wayne.
“I’m frustrated by what is going on in Augusta and want to make sure that the concerns and values of everyone in this district will be heard in the State House. The only way to do that is to represent House District 81 at the State House,” Castonguay in a news release.
He was born in Livermore and graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1965.
Castonguay, a retired postal service employee and Vietnam veteran, brings a wealth of experience to his candidacy. A resident of Maine most of his life, he has worked in forestry, agriculture and transportation and understands the issues facing this district and what it’s like to work two or three jobs to make ends meet. Labor, education and the elderly are some of the greatest concerns in this district that need to be immediately addressed, he said.
“Right now we need to focus on money in the pockets of working people by creating jobs and ensuring people are paid fair livable wages for a hard day’s work,” he said. “I will work from day one to create jobs to help those who are struggling to get by in this tough economy. As a leader, I understand government isn’t about a political scoreboard; it’s about making peoples lives better. I am committed to making your lives better by representing you in Augusta in the state Legislature.”
