DIXFIELD — The town and the Dixfield Historical Society are trying to find the owner and purpose of a vintage gown and ankle-length white cotton dress coat discovered upstairs in the town garage.
Charlotte Collins, a society director and deputy treasurer for the town, took the two badly soiled and slightly damaged garments home, cleaned them up and repaired them. They are on display in the town office where Collins hopes the owner will find them and tell the society of the outfit’s purpose.
She wonders whether the spring yellow, empire-style gown and coat were worn at a long-ago winter carnival, wedding, prom or some other special occasion.
Selectman Norine Clarke believes the outfit is from the 1950s to early 1970s.
If anyone knows who owned the outfit, they are asked to call the Town Office at 562-8151, or visit the office during regular business hours.
