With the announcement of Sen. Olympia Snowe not running for re-election, I was shocked and disappointed at the same time. Her reasons for leaving were very true and honest and that is why, as an independent, I have always voted for her. She is a true “gem of Maine.”

To my point — why doesn’t she run for president? She is the only person I know who could reach both sides of the aisle and get real results.

I hate to think I would have to vote for Barack Obama just because there is absolutely no one else. Besides, Jock McKernan would make a good first man.
