WEST PARIS — The West Paris Library has announced a new set of community services funded through a grant from the Maine Reads Community Literacy Program. The public is invited to an open house where they can share some light refreshments, find out about the new services and meet volunteers. The open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 9, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 10.
The community services being offered have been made possible by a grant from the Maine Reads Community Literacy Program, tutor training provided by the Oxford Hills Adult Education Program and the time and talent of library volunteers. The library now offers assistance to anyone who would like help to do the following: Look for a job, apply for work, seek public assistance, fill out forms of any kind (by hand or using the computer) and improve their reading and writing.
There is a volunteer at the library every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. to help anyone who drops by during that time. These services are also available by appointment.
In addition, the library continues to offer: one-on-one math tutoring for adults and school children (grades 1-6), after-school math help (grades 1-6) and one-to-one help to anyone wanting to improve their reading and writing.
A volunteer tutor is at the library on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., to offer these services. They are also available by appointment.
The West Paris Library is at 226 Main St. The library is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 674-2004.
