In response to the Sun Journal editorial Feb. 26, “There’s plenty of outrage to go around,” — I agree wholeheartedly, but the programs have worked so well, word spread across the land.
The result: People have flocked to Maine from other states and countries, hence the problems. Not only is the welfare system’s seams torn, but law enforcement has also fallen victim. The Sun Journal carries arrest reports and stories about the unrest in the Twin Cities and surrounding towns.
Most people move to change their lives, but some bring discord and problems with them. I know; I am a landlord in both Lewiston and Auburn. My tenant interviews are astounding sometimes.
Reading other people’s stories will not change my mind in siding with Gov. Paul LePage.
Everyone has a story; mine is that many of my family members would benefit from MaineCare, but they choose the hard road of doing it themselves.
We are also self-employed, have minimal health care insurance and still have out-of-pocket medical costs. We make payments; that is what we do. We take care of ourselves; we take care of our own.
I think Gov. LePage needs to shake up Maine government; politics were getting mundane and elected officials are just putting on Band-Aids — business as usual.
I do agree that other nations have figured out how to provide health care for all citizens.
We need one health care system and one set of rules/laws for everyone to abide by.
