CHESTERVILLE — Some new articles surfaced during Monday night’s annual town meeting.

A special town meeting will be held in the next few weeks to vote on articles to raise more money for summer road work, to authorize selectmen to take the next steps on the George Thomas Road bypass project and to cover town overdrafts from last year, Town Clerk Patricia Gordon said Tuesday.

About 80 people voted Monday to pass the 53 articles on the town warrant. They approved a town budget of $634,572, Gordon said.

During a discussion on summer roads, voters wanted to raise more money to update some town roads. A new article pertaining to this will be on the warrant of the upcoming special town meeting, she said.

The town also will consider whether to authorize selectmen to act on necessary legal documents, including acquisition of land, to continue the work on the George Thomas Road Bypass project.

The town’s overdraft was left off the warrant and will be considered during the special town meeting, Gordon said.

Voters elected William Hastings for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. Hastings garnered 71 votes to 44 votes cast for Daniel Tibbetts Sr.

Two proposed amendments to the Land Use Ordinance were approved, as was an update of the Flood Plain Management Ordinance.
