TEMPLE — Town meeting voters authorized selectmen Monday night to form a committee to make a plan for town roads.

About 50 residents gathered to consider the road committee, a town revaluation and raising a municipal budget, among other articles, Selectman Kathleen Lynch said Tuesday.

All articles passed, including the municipal budget of $481,197, which included an increase of $29,600 over last year’s spending plan.

Jean Mitchell, a former teacher and wife of a former selectman, was elected to serve a three-year term on the board with 59 votes. William Hodgkins got 12 votes and Janine Winn, 4.

Lou Brackett was re-elected town clerk and excise tax collector; and Betsy Hyde was re-elected to the RSU 9 school board. Both positions are for three years.

Raymond Nile was re-elected road commissioner for a two-year term, Lynch said.

She said residents briefly discussed what to do about town roads and who would serve, before authorizing selectmen to form the committee.

After considerable discussion, voters authorized selectmen to explore a town-wide revaluation and approved spending $25,000 this year for it.

Upgrading town tax maps was also discussed. No funds were raised. Lynch expected a special town meeting to be held when the costs for the upgrade are realized.

In lighter moments during the meeting, retiring Selectman George Blodgett was given a round of applause for his 21 years of service.

Marie Andrews received a legislative sentiment from Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, and Rep. Russell Black, R-Wilton, for her 21 years of service to the town as clerk and tax collector.

Andrews and her husband, George, who served as the town meeting moderator, were given a sentiment for their 50th wedding anniversary.
