WILTON — Five sugarhouses in Wilton will open to the public this weekend for Maine Maple Sunday.
As part of its Think Local First Campaign, the Wilton Group encourages residents to visit their neighbors who produce maple syrup, support them by buying their products and have fun at the same time.
The goal of the campaign is to promote and encourage people to shop locally. The sugarhouses will open for tours and provide treats for visitors to sample and purchase.
Participating sugarhouses in Wilton include:
* Black Acre Farm at 123 Black Road. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., they offer sugarbush and sap house tours, syrup tasting, maple cotton candy, refreshments and more. Follow the signs from Route 4 in Wilton.
* Hall Farm on Route 2 in East Dixfield hosts an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the old schoolhouse and showroom. The adult cost is $8, children under age 10, $4. Sugarhouse and farm tours take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Long Drive Acres Maple Farm, 319 Temple Road (up from East Wilton), opens Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Features include tours of the evaporation system. The showroom opens with samples of maple syrup on vanilla ice cream and items such as maple cream to sell.
* Mystic Valley Maples is on Route 2 in East Dixfield and is open all weekend: Saturday, March 24, and Sunday, March 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The showroom will be open and will feature maple syrup and other treats.
* Sweet Maple Farm, 391 Weld Road, also known as Route 156 . The farm is just past the golf course. Open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the farm will feature ice cream and pineapple, each with maple syrup, baked beans made with maple syrup and coffee made with maple sap. The showroom is open with maple products for sale.
