PERU — Selectmen on Monday night approved closing Concord Pond Road for the New England Performance Rally in July.
The race was changed from evening to afternoon to address the control of people who arrive early and party. The race is from Woodstock to Peru.
The road will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 13.
In other news, Road Commissioner Joe Roach reported that roads are still posted for large loads.
The board was informed that the moratorium on commercial wind development expires May 6 and selectmen may extend it after the public hearing April 30. The wind committee is making marked progress toward writing a wind ordinance, which is one requirement for an extension.
The decision to change zoning around Worthley Pond was tabled until the full board is present.
Selectman Kathy Hussey will return from vacation next week.
Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley told selectmen in February that zoning needs to be addressed because of business signs within 250 feet of the shoreline.
One of the signs is for the Bus eatery on Greenwoods Road on the west shore of the pond. The state Department of Environmental Protection said the signs are not allowed in the shoreland zone and must come down.
Deidre Schneider from the Department of Environmental Protection told the board March 12 that the Bus issue should not be ignored.
The diner usually opens Memorial Day.
In another issue, Wayne Moore asked why the school employees’ salaries were not posted in a public place for all to view.
Selectman Rick Vaughn said they used to be in the Town Report before RSU 10 was established. There was no answer to Moore’s question.
Selectmen will meet with the Wind Ordinance Committee at 5:30 p.m. April 2.
