CANTON — Phyllis V. (Child) Sylvester, 84, of Peru, died Saturday, March 24, at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Peru, a daughter of Arthur L. and Dora B. (Wilbur) Child. She attended local schools and as a young woman worked at WT Grants and later as a sales representative for Friendly Home Products for many years.
On March 29, 1963, she married Henry E. Sylvester. She was a loving homemaker to her family and enjoyed family meals and get-togethers. Her greatest times were those spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Phyllis also enjoyed going to yard sales, shopping and trips to play beano with her daughters. She will be remembered for her “big heart” and willingness to help anyone or anything, whether it was a stranger or stray animal, her door was always open. She will be greatly missed, loved and in all of her family’s hearts forever.
She is survived by her husband, Henry of Canton; daughters, Toni Chivilo of Princeton, Mass., Ann Desjardins and her husband, Peter, of Lafayette, Ind., and Candace Porter and her husband, Timothy of Peru; sons, John Sylvester and his companion, Dawn Leclerc, of Peru and Andy Sylvester and his wife, Jean, of Hebron; a son-in-law, Eric Kerr of Peru; grandchildren, Justin and Jonathan Chivilo, Christina Parker and her husband, Casey, Kevin Desjardins and his wife, Michelle, Robert Worthley, Barbara Sylvester and her companion, James Anderson, Dakota and Nicole Sylvester and Jennifer Sylvester, Eric Kerr and his wife, Timmie, Aaron Kerr and his wife, Christina and Laurie Theriault and her husband, Andy; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lizzy and Annika Mitchel, Madison and Lucy Desjardins, Forrest, Ashleigh and Cullen Kerr, Kevin Kerr, Mathew Theriault and Joshua Theriault; and great-great-grandchildren, Mathew and Mason Theriault and Taylor Theriault.
She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Sandy Kerr; sons-in-law, Bart Chivilo and George Jenkins; sisters, Lillian Martin and Bernice Palmer; and brothers, Arthur Child and Edwin “Monte” Child.
Her family wishes to thank all of the nurses and staff of the Victorian Villa for making Phyllis’ time there a loving home to her as though she was extended family. Also a big thank-you to Jen, Phyllis’ guardian angel.
