OXFORD — The Budget Committee voted Tuesday night to approve a $3.21 million budget to send to voters in June.
Committee members went over each item during the 90-minute meeting, eventually voting to approve the figures that Town Manager Michael Chammings submitted. The proposed budget is $29,700 more than the current year’s budget, or an increase of just under 1 percent.
Chammings said he expects casino revenues will allow the town to keep property taxes the same as last year. The town will receive 2 percent of slot machine and table game revenues, according to the referendum Maine voters approved in 2010.
There was some discussion over a $2,000 increase to the town’s General Assistance budget, from $6,800 to $8,800. Chammings pointed out that the number was far lower than in Norway, where last year voters approved a $110,000 General Assistance budget.
Tuesday’s meeting was the committee’s first and only one. The budget will go to Oxford voters at the town meeting in June.
