RUMFORD — A group of River Valley residents trying to grow the local economy, are calling into action a Cash Mob for three businesses.

The River Valley Ideaville Events Committee has selected Friday, March 30, at new foods-based, Mexican takeout business Gone Loco! Cafe at owner Annette Marin’s No View Farm at 855 South Rumford Road.

The other two Cash Mobs are asked to hit Mrs. B’s Village Store on Dickvale Road in Peru the week of April 9, and Wardwells on Route 17 in Mexico the week of April 21.

Cash mobs are groups of people that gather at local businesses and everyone buys something from the business. By doing so, they support both local businesses and the overall community.

In a Sunday post on Ideaville’s Facebook site, Event Coordinator Stefanie Wilson said the local initiative was launched “to help support the small, locally-owned businesses that are struggling economically.”

Starting in April, they’re changing from dedicating a day for cash mobs to dedicating a week to each business.

“We are asking our River Valley Community to consciously shop and purchase at the shops listed above,” Wilson wrote.

“When making your purchase, be sure that you tell them that Ideaville sent you! Then go to Ideaville on Facebook and tell us how you feel about your local purchase!” River Valley Ideaville is at www.facebook.com/groups/ideaville/.

In other news, River Valley Ideaville is seeking people who are interested in the future of locally-owned businesses in the River Valley to attend future meetings.

Wilson said the meetings include gathering and sharing information that will help identify needs and gain ideas for the River Valley.

“If you know of a River Valley small business that could use support of the local community and Ideaville’s Initiative, please contact us,” she said.

River Valley Ideaville is a group of local concerned citizens that was formed in 2011.

Long-term objectives of these meetings include increasing interest in River Valley locally-owned, small businesses, helping to stem the exodus of businesses from the area, increasing purchases of local products, and getting commitments to meet specific small business needs in the River Valley.

To accomplish these long-term objectives, the Ideaville group will continue to meet regularly.
