This is in answer to the letter by Larry Carrier (March 20).
John Adams was right, facts are a stubborn thing. They end up as part of history.
At one point in 2005, gas was a little more than $2 per gallon. By 2006, it was a lot more. Heating oil went up as well, and both kept going up in price. George W. Bush was in the White House.
Carrier blamed the wrong president.
According to facts, during the years 2005 to 2010, the nation was in a great recession. There were Republican presidents for 16 years. It will take longer than that to turn things around.
President Barack Obama has made a difference. But here is another fact: the president of the United States does not set gas prices. OPEC does.
