NEWRY — The 27th annual Ski-A-Thon is expected to raise $300,000 for Maine Adaptive Sports and Recreation. The Ski-A-Thon took place March 24 at Sunday River, and pledges totaling $270,000 were reported during the weekend.

There were 89 fundraising teams, each with five members, participating. Pledges continue coming in, and the total is likely to reach $300,000 by the time final collections are completed in the coming weeks.

Sunday River had ample terrain for hundreds of skiers and riders throughout the day. The event also featured other activities, live music and meals in and around the ballroom of the resort’s Grand Summit hotel.

“This was a critical year of transition for us and we still have a great shot for at least $300K in Ski-A-Thon donations. I am very thankful for this wonderful community of supporters,” said Maine Adaptive Executive Director Peter Adams.

The top fundraising team, the Dream Makers, raised more than $44,000, smashing the previous record by nearly $10,000.

Rounding out the rest of top three fundraising teams were Team Merrill Brook, led by Bing Fishman, with more than $13,000 and Northern Data Systems, led by Mark Stevens, with more than $10,000. And 71 individuals raised more than $1,000 each in pledges.
