I went to a fine restaurant the other day and ordered a very expensive meal. It was delicious. When I received the bill, I told the waitress that I was not going to pay. I told her it was my right and that other patrons would have to pay for my meal, then left.

Sound crazy?

The reality is that very scenario is now happening with the health care system today. There are 30 million Americans who do not have health insurance. If those people experience a major injury or illness, an ambulance will deliver them to a hospital. They will receive top-notch doctors’ and nurses’ care. When they are well again, they leave and often can’t pay the bill.

Who pays for that free “lunch?” Guess who.

The cost of that free care is why health insurance premiums are so high.

That is why the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is so important. Beginning in 2012, all Americans who can afford it will be required to have health care insurance.

Why should the rest of us have to pay for other people’s medical bills?

Obamacare is a good thing, right?

Some say it is an attack on personal liberty and freedom. Does that reasoning make any sense?

How about our freedom from not having to pay for other people’s medical bills?
