I am disappointed in the editorial decision to run the headline, “Somalia native pleads guilty” on the front page of the Sun Journal, March 30.

The online version of the same story carried a neutral headline, without the reference to Somalia.

Prominent use of  “Somalia native” in the print edition is unnecessary and serves only to fan the embers of distrust in the community.

If the man were from another country, say, France or England, would the headline have read, “France native pleads guilty”?

If the answer to that question is no, then the headline should not have been run as it was.

I expect better from the Sun Journal.

Editor’s note: The criticism is fair and we realize the headline could have been offensive.
