PARIS — The annual meeting of the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District will be held Saturday, April 21, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. Starting at 5:30 p.m. there will be a time for visiting, followed by dinner, entertainment and the presentation of awards.
The cost of the dinner will be $10 per plate and serving will begin at 6 p.m. Main course will be a choice of either chicken or vegetarian quiche to go with salad, vegetables, beverage and a dessert.
Maine Envirothon coordinator Tish Carr and former participant Molly Ladd will present a program on the Maine Envirothon Program. This year the Southwestern Regional Envirothon will be held in May at Seeds of Peace Camp and hosted by Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Recipients of Conservation Awards for the year include the following.
Forest Land Management, Lifetime Achievement Award: Ernest Angevine, along with his wife, Alberta, have managed a woodlot that began with 75 acres and grew to the present-day 189 acres. Over the years recognition for their stewardship has included the following awards: 2012 Maine Outstanding Tree Farmer, 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, 2004 Cooperator of the Year for the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District and 1990, 2003, 2006 Oxford County Outstanding Tree Farmers.
Educator/Teacher: Al Schaeffer is a forestry teacher at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, registered professional forester, Game of Logging instructor and certified logging professional supervisor
Land Conservator: Bart Hague is a member of the Western Foothills Land Trust. In 2011, Bart placed a large tract of land into conservation easement.
Lake Association of the Year: Keoka Lake Association had the highest percentage of Lake Smart awards of all the evaluated lakes in Oxford County for the years 2010-11.
Partnership Award: Lee Dassler is a member of the Western Foothills Land Trust and is receiving her award for partnering with OCSWCD on the Crooked River Watershed and Riparian Habitat Surveys.
Honoree of the Year: Sarah Otterson is being honored as the first woman to serve on the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisory Board.
