WILTON — The owner of a junked-out pickup truck at 150 Lake Road was cutting the plow frame off it when it caught fire Tuesday afternoon, Fire and Rescue Chief Sonny Dunham said.
The truck was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said. It was close to setting the garage on fire, Dunham said.
He estimated the burning truck was 6 to 8 feet from the garage, which is attached to the house.
Owner Jerry Whitney used three fire extinguishers trying to put the fire out but it didn’t work, Dunham said.
Seventeen firefighters from East Dixfield, Jay and Wilton responded. The fire was put out with water from Wilton’s Engine One, Dunham said.
