BELLINGHAM, Mass. — Mary (Brackett) Leavitt Linane, 76, of Bellingham, Mass., and formerly of Milford and Natick, died Tuesday, April 17, at her residence, surrounded by her family, after an illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Rangeley, the daughter of the late Gerald and Irene Brackett. She graduated from Rangeley High School and moved to Massachusetts in 1960, settling in Milford. She was employed by the New England Telephone Co. in Milford and Framingham for many years being one of the first females in a non-traditional job dominated by males.
Mrs. Linane was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club, the Red Hats, enjoyed bowling in leagues at Ficco’s in Franklin, was a Red Sox fan, an avid reader and a former owner of Needle Nook Ceramics. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the Milford Senior Center, her yearly trips to Aruba and the annual family reunions in Maine.
Most of all, she loved and was devoted to her large family. For 20 years, she was married to the late Robert Leavitt and had five children, Lou Ann D’Amico, wife of Derek D’Amico of Hopedale, Mass., Gary Leavitt and his wife, Sharon Leavitt, of Milford, Mass., Linda Dumont and her late husband, Robert Dumont, of Blackstone, Mass., Robert Leavitt of Natick, Mass., and Karen Leavitt of Bellingham, Mass.
For more than 20 years, she was married to the late William Linane of Natick, Mass., who had seven children who she embraced as her own, Cheryl Ashley, wife of Jack Beasley of Natick, Mass., Karen Galasso of Hudson, Mass., Pamela Szretter, wife of Ronald Szretter of Hudson, Mass., the late Cynthia Bowman, wife of Thomas Bowman of Wolfboro, N.H., Christine Carpenter, wife of Shawn Carpenter of Coventry, R.I., William Linane of Merrimac, N.H., and Dennis Linane, husband of Marcy Linane of Westboro, Mass.; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Brackett and his wife, Jane, of Starks and Kenneth Brackett and his wife, Joan, of Rangeley; her sister, June DeHorn and her husband, Steven, of Penacook, N.H.; and many friends, nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late David Brackett, who died at the age of two
