Circus Ole is a grass root effort to raise awareness about the mistreatment of circus animals in traditional circuses. Donations were taken to help In Defense of Animals, a nonprofit group that helps build sanctuaries for injured and retired circus animals.

“Donations were low this year but as I assess what worked and what didn’t, next year can only get better,” said organizer Rijah Newell. “This first year was about proving it can be done and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome.”

Circus Ole and Feast of Fools will now be an annual event with the possibility of more than one showing. Next year it falls on April Fools Day.
