NORWAY — A 64-year-old woman was injured Thursday afternoon when she lost control of her scooter on a patch of sandy road.

Police say Martha Bumpus of Round the Pond Road in Norway was riding her 2011 Honda Reflex scooter on Crockett Ridge Road around 3 p.m. when she went around a corner and the scooter slipped on some sand sending it and the rider to the ground.

Bumpus, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown to the ground and the scooter landed on her left leg, police said. She sustained a large gash to her leg, possible fractures of the right hand and other lacerations. She was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for treatment.

Bumpus, who just received her permit in March, was apparently test driving the scooter at the time of the accident.
