OXFORD — Two teenage girls were injured Thursday evening when the car they were in crashed off Yeaton Swamp Road, pinning one under it and trapping the other inside.

Oxford police Sgt. Rickie Jack did not release their names and said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The 15-year-old passenger was ejected through the back window of the Ford Focus and her leg was pinned under it, he said. The 16-year-old driver was trapped in the car, which landed on the passenger side.

Firefighters raised the car to free the passenger before freeing the driver, he said, because they didn’t want to risk putting more weight on the car while the girl’s leg was still underneath it.

“They’re pretty shaken up,” Jack said of the girls, who were taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

Jack said the car was headed northeast on the dirt road, going from the direction of Gore Road in Otisfield to Coldwater Brook Road in Oxford. It crossed the road and rammed into trees before rolling onto its side.

He said the crash is still under investigation but speed appears to be the cause.
