WILTON — Drivers and horses escaped injury Monday when a tractor-trailer truck and a sport utility vehicle hauling horses collided at Route 2 and Walker Hill Road.
The impact knocked the front tire off the SUV, Wilton police officer Matthew Billian said.
A 2003 Yukon driven by veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Heikkinen, 43, of Jay, attempted to make a left turn on to Walker Hill Road, Billian said. Heikkinen’s vehicle was hauling a horse trailer with two horses in it.
A 2008 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Eric Porter, 52, of Oakland, was traveling behind her SUV, Billian said. The tractor-trailer registered to NES Equipment Service of Illinois, went to the left to go around the SUV, and the front of the truck and the front driver’s side of the Yukon collided, Billian said.
Wilton Fire & Rescue assisted Billian at the scene of the 8:56 a.m. accident.
One of the drivers was checked out by a NorthStar Emergency Medical Service crew and was released, Billian said.
“No charges are pending,” he said.
