LEEDS — Shirley L. Jordan, 70, of 23 Jordan Drive, Leeds, died at her home on Friday, April 20, following a long illness.

She was born in Lisbon, Jan. 12, 1942, the daughter of Kenneth and Georgia Daniels Merrill Sr. Educated in area schools, she was a graduate of Lisbon High School, Class of 1960, where she was a head majorette and twirled fire baton for many years after on the fourth of July for kids in the neighborhood.

On June 22, 1962, she married Dwight H. Jordan Jr., and together they made their home in Leeds. She worked for many years as a telephone operator for New England Telephone.

Always athletic, she was a avid bowler, competing in a league at Sparetime Recreation, and also golfed in the women’s league at Prospect Hill Golf Course.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dwight of Leeds; two sons, David and wife, Jackie Jordan, of Montpelier, Va., and Dwight J. Jordan of Turner; a daughter, Kimbalee Jordan of Leeds; three brothers, Alton and wife, Shirley Wing, of Auburn, Raymond and wife, Linda Wing, of Bingham and Kenneth and wife, Rosemary Merrill, of Greene; three sisters, Junie and husband, Robert Dimock, of Utah, Florence Field of Hampden and Margie Searles of New Gloucester; and five grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, George, Edward and Richard Wing; and a sister, Ellen Searles.
