DIXFIELD — The Police Department is taking part in National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday.

Chief Richard Pickett said previous drug collections have been very successful in getting rid of outdated and unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The nationwide day is meant to keep drugs out of the hands of those not authorized to use then, as well as provide a safe way to keep them out of the environment.

Those wishing to drop off drugs may do so from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Police Department on Route 2 just outside of town.

In other police news, the department has responded to nearly 70 calls in the past few weeks. Among them were the following.

* A Weld Street resident reported at 12:43 p.m. April 15 that someone took two lawnmowers valued between $100-$150 from outside his home.

* A 2012 Kenworth truck driven by Chad Dyer, 27, of Weld, and a 1995 Honda sedan driven by Carmen Thibodeau, 31, of Hathaway Lane, Dixfield, collided at 11:07 a.m. April 14 on Weld Street. The truck was not damaged. The Honda had front-end damage and was towed.

In another matter, Pickett warned drivers that whenever wipers are running, headlights must also be turned on. Not to do so is a violation of state law.

He also said that six juveniles who had scrawled graffiti at Marble Park last fall spent April 17 cleaning up the writing and painting where necessary. They are also expected to repay the school district for custodial time and materials.
