MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society will host two events this weekend.

Beginning with an open house from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, visitors can check out the the Society’s collection of Mechanic Falls memorabilia that has expanded to the upstairs portion of the Society building, the former First Congregational Church on 64 Elm St.

Also on Saturday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Society will hold its Almost Famous Roast Beef Community Supper. The cost of the supper is $7 for adults; $5 for children 12 and under.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, the Society will present A Music of Note, a concert organized by Robert Malcolm, former music teacher and church organist for the First Congregational Church.

The free concert will feature several area organists who will perform on the pipe organ bequeathed to the congregational church in 1901 by Nelson Valentine in memory of his father, John Valentine. The older Valentine was influential in organizing the church in 1840 and donated the property on which the church, and now the Historical Society, calls home.

Area musicians who will participating in the concert include Connie Benwitz, organist for the Hebron Community Baptist Church and West Minot Union Church; Claire Poulin, organist for the Monmouth Center Church; Vickie Stubbs from the Poland Community Church; Jon Whitmore from Auburn; Merton Lord of South Paris; and Robert Malcolm.
