CARTHAGE — The Olympic Symphonium from new Brunswick, Canada, will be performing at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in South Carthage, on Sunday May 6. Curtain at Skye is 7:00 p.m. A pre-show jam session starts 1 hour prior to curtain.
Crafting delicately arranged folk-pop that drips with bittersweet melodies, soaring harmonies, and an awful lot of passion, The Olympic Symphonium have been sharing their quiet world with us since 2005. They are a collaborative effort between three multi-instrumentalists, songwriters and friends: Nick Cobham, Kyle Cunjak and Graeme Walker.
Back in 2007, The Olympic Symphonium released their debut album, “Chapter 1,” to rave reviews. They quickly sold out of the limited pressing and followed it up with 2008’s “More in Sorrow Than In Anger,” an album that saw collaboration with a number of prominent Canadian artists including Catherine MacLellan, Dale Murray (Cuff The Duke), Jenn Grant, Amelia Curran, Joel Leblanc (Hot Toddy) and Rose Cousins. They toured extensively in North America, and twice in the U.K., stopping to record a session at the BBC with the acclaimed Bob Harris. During their travels, they shared the stage with Hayden, Jason Collett, City & Colour, Al Tuck, David Myles, and Joel Plaskett. In early 2011, the band released their third album, “The City Won’t Have Time To Fight,” in Canada (Forward Music Group) and Denmark (Kanel Records), toured around Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and began a winter folk festival called ‘Shivering Songs’ in their hometown of Fredericton.
Currently, the band is busy writing material for a new record, programming their next Shivering Songs festival, getting ready to release two digital-only albums and taking care of their small children.
The concert is presented by New England Celtic Arts. Skye Theater is located 3 miles West of East Dixfield village at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and Route 2 in South Carthage. Tickets are $15 at the door. For reservations at Skye Theatre call 207-562-4445.
