Migratory bird walk

NORWAY — Due to the shortened winter season, record early ice-out dates and early spring bloom, the Western Foothills Land Trust has scheduled its 17th annual bird walk for Saturday, May 5, exactly two calendar weeks ahead of normal. The rain date will be May 6.

Due to a perceived desire for additional morning rest on behalf of potential return birders, the Trust is breaking all traditions and will start the walk at 8 a.m. this year — “almost noon” to most bird watchers — from the newly completed warming hut at Roberts Farm Preserve, 64 Roberts Road.

The bird walk is highly competitive, very fun and educational. Bring binoculars and bird books. Dress for weather, bugs, walking and wet footing. About 50 species are generally identified during the two-hour walk. Refreshments will be available, $10 donation requested. For more information call 739-2124 or email wflt@megalink.net.
