PARIS — A deck collapse at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday sent four people to the hospital, some with serious injuries. A few were pinned underneath when help arrived, police officer Nathan Bowie said.
The deck had been attached to an apartment above a garage at 149 Moody Brook Road. According to witnesses, six to eight adults were standing on the seemingly sturdy, pressure-treated deck when it suddenly gave way and fell about 10 feet, he said.
Some people drove themselves to the hospital and four were taken by ambulance.
“We’re short on names right now just because so many were transported to the hospital,” Bowie said. “From what we could see on-scene, it looked like some (injuries) may be serious, maybe some broken bones, maybe some internal injuries.
“The deck fell in toward the house so people were thrown, pinned between the house and the deck,” he said. “It’s a very unfortunate incident.”
He estimated the deck to be seven to eight years old and 8 feet by 10 feet in size. Because there didn’t appear to be any criminal conduct involved, the issue will go next to code enforcement, Bowie said.
