Fiddlehead fundraiser
GRAY — The Fiddlehead Art & Science Center’s 5th annual Silent & Live Auction Fundraiser, “Palette,” will take place Saturday, May 19.
This year to build more excitement, the center is offering an online portion to the auction through a fundraising website called “Bidding for Good.” Online bidding is ongoing now through May 17 at 11 p.m.
Some items will be offered only online, so don’t miss out. Another feature of the online bidding is absentee bidding that is available for items not reserved for the “live only” event. Items will continue to be added to the Bidding for Good site as they are received.

Barker Arms bake sale
AUBURN — A bake sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on the first floor of the community room at Barker Mill Arms, 143 Mill St. There will be 50/50 chances, food baskets, homemade baked goods and a white elephant table. The kitchen will be open for donuts and coffee, as well as hot dogs, chips and soda at lunch time.

Living with Alzheimer’s for people with Alzheimer’s, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 14. The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is life-changing and leads to many questions. We will discuss what you need to know, what you need to plan and what you can do as you navigate this chapter of your life.
Legal and financial planning, from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, May 14. If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, the time for legal and financial planning is now. This workshop is for anyone who would like to know more about what legal and financial issues to consider and how to put plans in place.
‘Co-survivor’ workshop
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free lunch and learn for cancer survivors and caregivers. “When Someone You Care About has Cancer” will take place Monday, May 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room D.
When someone in our lives is facing cancer, sometimes we just don’t know what to say or do to help. Join us at this workshop to learn how to manage the challenges of being a ‘co-survivor.’
Presenter and cancer survivor Dawn Pelletier will discuss things you can say and do to support your loved one so that you can feel better about being able to truly help. Light lunch provided.

Take Charge! screenings
LEWISTON — Free community health screenings from St. Mary’s Take Charge! will be offered on May 14, 17 and 23. Appointments are limited so call 777-8898 today.
Take Charge! is a quick and easy screening that includes testing total cholesterol and HDL “good cholesterol” along with a written health risk assessment, height, weight and blood pressure measurement. Participants will receive a personalized review of results and health risks that will be explained by an exercise physiologist followed by health education.
Meditation workshop
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free meditation workshop for cancer survivors and caregivers. “Mindful Meditation: A Tool for Working with Change” will take place Mondays May 14 through June 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room H.
Staying present in the midst of difficulty and change takes some conscious practice. Often we develop reflexive patterns of avoidance, distraction or reaction.
Presenter Angela Lutzenberger, bereavement coordinator and inter-religious chaplain for Beacon Hospice, will introduce Mindfulness Meditation, a tool and practice that helps us recognize and feel our experience in each moment with nonjudgmental attention. It is about truly letting ourselves be exactly who we are. Each session will consist of instruction, group practice and discussion.

Monmouth Legion meeting
MONMOUTH — American Legion Post 204 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Monmouth Fish and Game building on Route 202. All members and anyone wishing to attend should be at this meeting. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month.
A capella summer camp
RAYMOND — A one-week summer camp dedicated to a cappella singing instruction and performance will be held from July 8-July 13 on Panther Pond. The music program will be directed by Lewiston High School’s vocal music director, Darren Avery. The residential and waterfront program will be directed by Peter Slovenski, a Lewiston High school graduate who is the track coach at Bowdoin College.

Ride For Life benefits Relay
RUMFORD — The annual Ride For Life Motorcycle Ride is scheduled for June 2. Participants will register at L.A. Harley Davidson in Lewiston at 9 a.m. A safety briefing will take place at 9:45 and the bikes will depart from L.A. Harley at 10 and travel to Hosmer Field in Rumford, where they will display their bikes and enjoy a barbecue hosted by the River Valley Unit Relay For Life.
Early registration is available by calling Cindi at 357-2701 or Andrea at 357-5606. Register before May 25 and the donation is $15 per rider; after May 25 the donation will be $20 per rider. All donations benefit the River Valley Unit Relay For Life Event for 2012.
Ride Against Hunger
DURHAM — The 9th annual Ride Against Hunger will take place on Saturday, June 2. Registration is from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. at the Durham Get-n-go on Route 136. Donation is $10 per rider.
Riders will depart at 9:30 a.m. for Good Shepherd Food-Bank, 3121 Hotel Road, Auburn, for a bike blessing and lunch sponsored by Chapter 484 Christian Motorcycle Association. Lots of valuable prizes. In case of rain this will become an any vehicle ride. Proceeds benefit Good Shepherd Food-Bank. Each $10 donation will provide $80 in food.

Bridge Run races
LEWISTON — The Bridge Run Foundation was created last year for the purpose of promoting health and wellness throughout Lewiston and Auburn. The foundation is a part of the Triple Crown Committee which organizes the YMCA Fit Fest, Emily’s Run and the L-A Bridge Run, all 5 kilometer run/walk events along with free 400 meter Kids Fun Runs.
The L-A Bridge Run is the final race in the Greater L-A Triple Crown 5K Series. The Bridge Run Foundation has used proceeds from the race to send local teenagers to the Appalachian Mountain Club Teen Wilderness programs and will continue to do that again this year by sending children from the Boys & Girls Club of Auburn-Lewiston as well as children from both Lewiston and Auburn Middle Schools.
Additionally this year the Bridge Run Foundation will be providing free race day registration to all children ages 14 and under who would like to run the 5K races of the Greater L-A Triple Crown Series. Children along with a parent or guardian may simply show up between 7:15 and 8:30 a.m. on race day, go to the race day registration table and tell them you are a Bridge Run Foundation Runner. T-shirts will be sold separately.

The Bridge Run Foundation will also be sponsoring a Kid’s Obstacle Course that will take place as part of the Bands on the Run Half Marathon & 5K on June 24 at Simard-Payne Park. Monmouth alumni reunion
MONMOUTH — Monmouth Academy will hold the 113th annual Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Aug. 4, honoring the class of 1962.
The event will take place at the Monmouth Academy gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with a social.
A box lunch from Hurricanes will be served at noon. Choices will be turkey, chicken salad, ham and cheese or tuna salad sandwiches. The cost for alumni is $12, guests are $8 if not alumni.
