KENANSVILLE, N.C. — Richard Arthur Perry, 76, of Jacksonville, N.C., died May 12, at the Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Dover, N.H., on May 27, 1935, the son of Arthur and Anita Dorian Perry.

Richard grew up in Greene and Turner and graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1953.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps after high school and had a distinguished 24 year career and served two tours in Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts and other medals. After retiring from the Marines as a lieutenant, he was the head manager of the Food Service at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and retiring in the early 1990s.

Richard enjoyed fishing, reading and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Atsuko Perry, Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter, Elaine and husband, Marc Magdinec, granddaughters, Caroline and Sara, all of Huntingtown, Md.; sisters, Marion Perry Rogers and husband, Dana Rogers, of Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy Perry Guilmet and husband, Richard Guilmet, of Embden; an aunt; nephews; a niece and many cousins.

He will be sadly missed by all of us.
