Not nearly as dominant, but still near the top, the Lewiston boys’ and girls’ tennis teams will begin this year’s team tennis tournament in familiar territory, and with familiar company.

The Lewiston boys suffered a pair of 5-0 losses to northern teams Hampden Academy and Bangor, but otherwise escaped the season unscathed with a mark of 10-2, earning the No. 2 seed in the tourney.

The Lewiston girls also finished 10-2, and placed third in a point behind unbeaten No. 1-seed Brunswick and 11-1 Hampden Academy. But the Blue Devils defeated the Broncos in the teams’ one meeting this season, 4-1.

The St. Dom’s boys, meanwhile, completed a fine season in the MVC, earning the top seed in Western C with an unblemished 12-0 regular season. Dirigo, which lost a 3-2 decision to the Saints during the year, finished in second at 10-2, with Monmouth hot on the Cougars’ heels, also at 10-2. Monmouth will host No. 6 Winthrop in a Western Class C quarterfinal, while Dirigo will host No. 7 Lisbon, which capped a 7-5 season with another playoff berth.

Also in the boys’ ranks, Mountain Valley snuck into the Western B ladder in ninth, and will face No. 8 Yarmouth in a preliminary round contest, while Edward Little made its way into the Eastern A field, in sixth position, and will travel to Hampden Academy in a quarterfinal, with the winner to take on the winner of Lewiston vs. No. 7 Cony.

On the girls’ side, Oak Hill finished strong at 8-4 to slide into the No. 5 position in Western B. The Raiders will face No. 4 Lincoln Academy, with the winner likely to face top-seeded Falmouth in the semifinal round. Mountain Valley’s girls’ team also slid into the postseason at No. 9, and will face York in a preliminary contest for the right to see Falmouth in the quarters.

In Class C, Dirigo and Winthrop are tied with 10-2 records, and the Cougars topped the Ramblers for the No. 2 seed behind unbeaten Hall-Dale. The Saints’ girls’ squad placed fourth, with the Lisbon Greyhounds coming in at No. 5. Monmouth edged North Yarmouth Academy for the ninth and final playoff position, and will face Wiscasset in a preliminary round contest.
