Workshop on invasives

NEW VINEYARD —  A hands-on workshop on Invasive Plant and Insect Species will be held Thursday, May 31, at the Forster Ricardo Farm on the Miller Road. The all-day session is hosted by Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Maine Forest Service with support through promotion from the UKV chapter of SWOAM.

Lorraine Taft, volunteer coordinator with the Maine Forest Pest Outreach and Survey Project, will take the lead for the hands-on invasive insect session and Tom Rawinski, U.S. Forest Service botanist, will do the invasive plants session.

Preregister by sending $10 to FCSWCD at 107 Park St., Farmington ME 04938 by May 29. Participants may also call to register and pay $15 at the door. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee will be available.

MBHS events

FARMINGTON — On Wednesday, May 30, a variety of events are taking place at Mt. Blue High School.

On the first floor ninth-grade English students will be displaying their projects based on assignments from the book “Learning to Love You More.” Ninth-grade social studies students will be selling beads handmade by women in Uganda from recycled paper. This is part of a Poverty Unit that the students have been working on. The sale will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Immediately after the displays and sale, the Mt. Blue Music Departments will hold their spring concert in the gym. This concert will showcase the various music programs in the school and will provide an entertaining close to the evening.

Yard, plant sale

FARMINGTON — There will be a two-day yard sale and plant sale held on Friday, June 1, and Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holman Parish House next door to the Old South First Congregational Church on Main Street.

The yard sale will feature household items, tools, furniture, recreational equipment, toys, books, movies, games, CDs, collectibles and more. The plant sale will include locally grown perennials and herbs. Proceeds will benefit Old South Church community service, outreach, youth programs and future Franklin Association UCC Honduras Partnership projects.

High school seniors events

SALEM TOWNSHIP — Mt. Abram High School will host two special events to honor the Class of 2012 and their families. Seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to attend the annual Mt. Abram Staff Breakfast for Seniors and Senior RecognitionNight.

The breakfast will be served by the staff from 7 to 8 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Mt. Abram High School Cafeteria.

At Senior Recognition Night, to be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, awards will be presented and special recognitions will be made. It will take place at the Mt. Abram High School gym.

Casserole, bean supper

JAY — A public supper will take place Saturday, June 2, at the North Jay Grange 10. Menu will include baked beans, casseroles, cole slaw, hot dogs, kielbasa, salads, rolls, beverages and desserts. Music by The Crosbys. Adults, $7; child 10/under, $3.

Church to hold puppet show

LIVERMORE FALLS — The Puppeteers at Eaton Memorial UMC, corner of Church and Knapp streets, will present their Spring ’12 Puppet Show at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 2, and at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 3.

There is no charge, but “free will” donations will be accepted to benefit the Tri-Town fuel fund.

String Band to perform

SALEM — The Narrow Gauge String Band will return to the Salem Community Building at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The group will provide an afternoon of down home country music and fun. A donation box will be at the door and refreshments will be on sale. Hosted by the Salem Pine Tree Club.

Garden Club luncheon

FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue Area Garden Club’s annual membership luncheon will be served by the ladies at the Fairbanks Church at noon Tuesday, June 5. Anyone wishing to become a member is welcome to attend.

A lasagna luncheon with dessert and beverage will be served for $10 to those who RSVP to 645-2067. New officers will be installed and outgoing officers will be recognized. Amy Palmer, club president, will conduct the meeting. For information call 645–2067.

Community yard sale

CHESTERVILLE — A community-wide yard sale will be held at the Chesterville Town Office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7.

According to Carolyn Drugge, Chesterville Center Union Meeting House, Inc. board president, all vendors at the yard sale will keep their earnings, although a $15 table fee will be collected from each vendor to support repairs to the historic Union Meeting House. The board will also have a table, and is accepting donations of items for the sale.

A limited number of tables remain available, and Chesterville residents will be given priority in reserving them. To reserve a table, contact Cyndy Stancioff at 778-3513 as soon as possible. Deadline for reservations is June 9.
