PARIS — Two men charged with robbing the Big Apple in Canton last week appeared in South Paris District Court on Tuesday.
Edward Barbioni Jr., 29, and Alexander Ryerson, 19, both of Jay, were each arrested Saturday morning on a Class A robbery charge.
Bail was set at $10,000 cash or $50,000 surety. Barbioni and Ryerson must avoid contact with each other and stay off Big Apple and C.N. Brown property.
Jay police, Oxford County sheriff’s deputies and the Maine State Police Tactical Team surrounded a three-story apartment building at 77 Knapp St. in Jay early Saturday morning and arrested both in connection with a robbery that occurred the previous Sunday night at the Canton Big Apple.
The men are accused of walking into the store at around 11:15 p.m. and displaying a handgun. Police say they made off with cash and cigarettes.
Assistant District Attorney Joseph O’Connor said the girlfriend of one of the men told police they robbed the store. O’Connor said police searching the Jay apartment on a warrant found cigarettes of the same brand reported stolen from the store and clothing that looked like the clothes worn in the robbery.
Both men are due in Oxford County Superior Court on Sept. 9.
