WILTON — An open house at the sewage treatment plant at 78 Davis Court is planned for Friday and Saturday.
The plant will be open for visitors from 9 a.m. to noon June 1 and 2. Residents can see the 34-year-old plant and view the areas that are planned for upgrade under Phase II. Voting on the second phase of the project will be held at the annual town meeting June 18.
The first phase, already accepted by the town, includes an upgrade of all 31 pump stations and some initial work at the treatment plant at a cost of $4,696,000. Construction is expected to begin in July and be finished by the end of 2013.
The second phase includes the balance of the work at the treatment plant, which is well beyond its 20-year design life. The second phase cost is $4,962,000 with construction expected to start in the spring of 2013.
If the town doesn’t accept the second phase, the town could lose control of the project, Clayton Putnam, wastewater plant superintendent, previously said. The state Department of Environmental Protection could move in with basically a court order to make improvements to the aging facility. Current grant funding, which would provide 45 percent of the cost, may also be lost, he said.
