FARMINGTON — Carole Rickards, who was born and raised in Rumford, will display her artwork through the month of June at SugarWood Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 1; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2.
As a child, Rickards was fascinated by color, shape, line, form and design. She took art classes while in high school and was enrolled as an art major at the University of Maine at Augusta until life experiences interrupted her formal education.
She sold her artwork at galleries and shows, and gave private art lessons. An avid birdwatcher, she made birds the subject of her acrylic paintings for many years. She also depicted many barns in the area.
After many years as a freelance artist, she continued her formal education at UMA. In two independent art studies she learned the process of interactive and collaborative art, and the use of eco-friendly mediums. She earned an associate’s degree in liberal studies and continued on to accumulate enough credits to qualify for Ed-Tech III certification. She is involved with the Pennacook Art Center.
SugarWood Gallery, at 248 Broadway, is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
