LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus, area agency on aging, offers free (unless noted) classes for the older adult learner. The classes are designed to help people make informed choices about aging well, living independently and doing it safely.

Classes for June include:

All About Cataracts: Friday, June 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Dr. Kenneth Wolf. What is a cataract, causes and risk factors, symptoms, detection, treatment, current research and new technology.

Mini-Antique Road Show: Tuesday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Larry Duprey, antiquarian. Bring up to three items for appraisal. (No comic books or baseball cards.)

Veteran’s Benefits: Tuesday, June 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Jerry DeWitt, LSW. DeWitt will provide the forms for veterans to apply for medical care.

Learning More about Bone Health: Wednesday, June 20, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Alma Jordan, CMMC technologist. Learn about osteoporosis risk factors and prevention.

Blending Colors on Canvas: You Can Do It: Thursday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, Jim Dunn, local artist; $45 supplies, lesson. Quick and easy oil painting techniques.

Letter Writing: Put a Little Happiness on Paper: Friday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, Christine Richards, author. The guided letter-writing workshop offers tips, suggestions and examples. All supplies included.

Make Your Own Summer Bracelet and Earrings: Friday, June 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.,  Sandi Godin; supplies, $10. Craft bracelet and earrings with summer materials supplied.

“What If I Fall?”: Tuesday, June 26, from 10 to 11 a.m., Lisa Cailler, RN, clinical liaison, AHCH. Recognize the risk factors for falling, home safety measures to prevent falls,and resources to help remain safe.

Medicare Information: Thursday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, Roland Bussiere, SeniorsPlus. Learn the basics and timelines of the complex system.

“What’s Happening to My Body As It Ages?” Men’s Health: Thursday, June 28, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Dr. Alan Verrill, CMMC, hospitalist. Senior men’s health will be discussed, including prostate and cardiovascular.
