CAMPTON, N.H. — To celebrate National Get Outdoors Day, day-use fees will be waived Saturday, June 9, at national forests across the country, the White Mountain National Forest announced Wednesday.

However, fees will remain in effect for overnight camping, cabin rentals, permits, reservations and activities offered by concessionaires, WMNF spokeswoman Colleen Mainville said.

“On Saturday, June 9, join us to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day by hiking, biking or taking a leisurely walk or drive to enjoy your National Forest,” Mainville said.

Those interested in driving, she said, should try out the new Weeks Act Legacy Trail driving tour. It is an actual or virtual history tour that includes 40 sites along a 100-mile loop in the White Mountains region. It is free and available to download or print at weekslegacy.org.

The trail includes seven interpretive themes, which can be accessed through personal electronic media such as audio players, smartphones and other electronic devices, Mainville said.
