PERU — Election officials and Town Clerk Vera Parent were pleasantly surprised at the large turnout at Tuesday’s polls.
Parent said she only had 500 ballots printed. That wasn’t nearly enough, as there were more than 100 absentee ballots and close to 400 people at the polls as of 5 p.m.
In fact, it was so busy they ran out of ballots, forcing Parent to print and fold several more while assisted by election helpers.
Results were still being tabulated by midnight. Go to sunjournal.com for the official results on Wednesday.
