RANGELEY — The  Board of Selectmen was told Tuesday of vandalism at the  cemetery, where a spigot was ripped off its pipe and the water left to run for two days.

Town Manager Tim Kane reported that several tombstones and garbage cans were been kicked over, as well, several beer bottles left and veterans’ flags stolen. He said the Police Department is investigating.

Kane also reported that Fire Chief-elect Tim Pellerin is looking at grant opportunities through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grants require banking information such as account numbers, which will require the town’s permission.

Other reports included two speeding tickets given to logging trucks, and one bid received for cleaning services. Atlas Fireworks has a new crew coming into town for the July 3 fireworks celebration. Also, mowing, weed whacking and roadside brush-cutting is being done to spruce up for this weekend’s Moose Lottery.

The board meeting opened with two public hearings. The first concerned appendices to General Assistance. Town Clerk Ethna Thompson read the changes in language and procedures that had been mandated by the state. There were no comments or discussion.

The board approved the liquor license renewal and the special amusement license for the Shed, which reportedly would involve acoustic music a few nights a week, to end at 9 p.m.
