- Natasha Nichols, daughter of Jessica and Tony Nichols of Strong, took her turn at one of the games offered at Pierpole Days events Friday afternoon. The day ended with a parade down Main Street, featuring floats with this year’s “Gone, But Not Forgotten” theme. The Fire Department hosted a chicken barbecue, and the Strong Elementary School eighth-graders cooked up a pig roast dinner for visitors. Pierpole was a Native American of the region, which was named Middletown (between Phillips and Farmington) and then Readstown, when William Read from Nobleboro came to the area in 1784. Strong was incorporated Jan. 31, 1801, and named for Gov. Caleb Strong of Massachusetts.
