LEEDS — Dr. Larry Catlett of Occupational Medical Consultants LLC has recently returned from Washington, D.C., where he worked with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to discuss the ongoing development of the NIOSH Total Worker Health initiative.
For the past several years, Catlett has overseen a medical study supported by the respiratory disease section of NIOSH and the Cianbro Corp., with a goal to detect early pulmonary function loss in workers regardless of cause (work exposures, smoking or obesity), and to design appropriate interventions to mitigate any loss.
The project is an example of integrating occupational or workplace health efforts with general medical health prevention and treatment efforts, increasing efficiency and quality of health services delivered through this model.
